I doubt if it's a hardware problem, I would think more likely a bad install. I hate to recommend formatting and reinstalling unless as a last resort, but I think it might be necessary in this case. Bad installs aren't common, but do happen.
Post more info first...machine specs, and the specific version of windows. And did anything unusual happen during the install? Was this an upgrade, or full install? Was it installed from a factory CD or a copy made on a rewriter?

Thanks for opinion but i already tried another formating and installing win 98 second edition from recorded CD but the same CD i used for installing on my other computer and my friends and everything is OK.
I have AMD k6 266 Mhz, 32 Ram, 6,4 GB-hdd, TX- motherboard, s3 grafic card
this is the second try to install windows on this computer but the same problem apears. I'm afraid that this is a hardware problem.
Do you have some idea what could it be?
thanks

ok, it is not impossible this is a hardware problem, if it is, almost certainly the hard drive itself. TO check, format the drive, boot with the boot disk, and run a scandisk /all to run scandisk and the surface scan. I have had a hard drive going out that I didn't realize it had bad sectors, and it wouldn't install windows 98 worth a turd.
Also, after install, go to start, run and type in "sfc" and click ok, it starts up system file checker, and have it scan for altered files. I have yet to havea perfect install with windows 98 that didn't require extracting at least one file from cd afterwards.
