Cannot run Scan Disk or Defrag with Raid Setup

I am experiencing problems with system crashes anytime I try to run scandisk or defrag. I have just finished building this system and am somewhat new to the whole RAID controller thing. After a crash, windows will run a scandisk successfully while booting but that is the only time. I have installed all of the newest drivers for my abit kt7 w/ raid motherboard and the highpoint 370 controller. Any help would be appreciated!

Turn off your screensaver and disable anything in the system tray

Even easier is running scandisk and defrag in Safe Mode (tap the F8 key repeatedly when you turn on the PC until the startup menu appears, then choose "Start in Safe Mode"). That way you don't have to worry about disabling systray programs, screensavers, etc. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
