After installing 128mb SDRAM Pc-133mhz into
a
PIII 500 with 133 chip and current 128mb
SDRAM
Pc-100, it was running great under
Win 2K. Then
had a crash during scan disk
(screen went
black) the computer would not
longer work at
all. I took it to someone
who told me that the
processor, motherboard,
and hard disk were
damaged. he said it could
have been caused by
two different speeds
of RAM. I did not think
this was the case,
but he said that he couldnt
think of anything
else, although it was very
unusual for a
hard drive to be damaged. Anyway
I now have
a Duron 750, with the old 128mb PC-
100 RAM,
win 98 second edition, and a new
motherboard,
with 128mb RAM gathering dust as I
cannot
take it back. Is it safe to put back
in,
should i try and sell it to get 100mhz
instead,
or do i need to change some settings
(BIOS)
before putting in the RAM.

Please help me if you can,

Matt K

I currently run the following.

Diamond P2 motherboard
350MHZ P2

I have a 128mb PC100 chip installed and a 128mb PC133 chip as well as 64mb pc100 chip.

I have been running this for 6 months with no problems. (I should knock on wood now that I said that)

My understanding is that the PC 133 is backward compatable so you can combine it with PC100 it will just run at the slower speed (100mhz).

You can check in your MOBO manual and see what they recommend. That is the safest way to go. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

As far as the RAM causing all that to happen I'll let a more Technical person answer that.
