Msnp32.dll

This little file has been an annoyance to me lately. I went mucking around and accidentaly uninstalled this component. On startup, i can boot, but it says that the file has been missing. I got the file from one of my files and replaced it...but it still says it is missing. ??? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

i tried to do the regsvr32 thing. I got this message: LoadLibrary("msnp32.dll") failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000002

btw, does it matter if you got the file from another person's windows 95? i use 98, so is there a difference?

hm...i seem to have the same problem...i went to a site and downloaded msnp32.dll, windows 98. i followed the microsoft tech support and did the regsvr32 msnp32.dll, and it gives me the same error message.i have put the file in the windows/system folder, so its in the right place. what gives?

Hi Zed. Was just reading some older posts [instead of sleeping like I should be http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif] and came across yours. Don't know if you've found the answer to your problem, but just in case I'll post this. Do you by chance have MSN installed? That file might be related to MicroSoft Network Provider, with the msnp32.dll being the version for Win98 and the msnp.dll for Win95. If you use or have used MSN, you could try reinstalling it to recover the missing file. If you don't use MSN, check your win.ini and system.ini files to see if they're trying to load that file, thus giving you the error message when the file's isn't found.

you can install Win98 over the top very easily and you want lose a thing ie, Put in CD or use files on hard drive and go to D:\win98\ and run setup.exe

Note if D:\ is your CD-Rom so if you have another hard drive or a CD Writer it could be E:\. also some people have a Win98 folder in the root of their boot drive

Daniel: Installing Windows on top of an existing Windows OS to solve a problem is not recommended. It usually brings old problems along with it. In some cases it will work, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Zed: Have you removed Client for Microsoft Networks and reinstalled it?

I can't think of anything else, just trying to find out if you've tried everything on the MSKB link Charles posted. You might try an overinstall, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you're going to install the OS, might as well go all the way and format the thing first...
