whenever i start my computer this blue screen comes up and say "you need to restart your computer, system halted and when i restart it, it comes back up in safe mode and then i shut it down again and i have to go through this about 4 or 5 times until windows finally restarts what could be the problem i was running win 98se and then i upgraded to win me, so i dont know if it had something to do with the upgrade or not. please help.

I'd bet my eyeteeth that it *is* related to the upgrade. Were it Windows 95, I'd suspect a corrupted registry, but I haven't used Windows ME, so I can't be much more help. Can you undo the upgrade and try again?

I'd bet on the upgrade too, it's always best to do a clean install instead of leaving the old OS on the machine and upgrading over it. More often than not you end up with more problems than you want to deal with, and also have all sorts of leftovers that really should be cleaned out.
Post the exact error message and maybe we can give you some ideas to try.

If Paleo Pete's answer is'nt working just intall win98 straight over the top. you wont lose a thing and it will or should i say should, repair it.

Did you have virus protection software on your system before you intalled the ME upgrade? If so that is the problem. If you can uninstall the upgrade and get back to Win98 then uninstall the V protection software and reinstall ME.
