When trying to upgrade or patch Windows ME or IE5, system goes into CPU loop (shown by CPU monitor), with little I/O. Updates take literally hours to complete.
Have turned off all software that I can at boot (virus checker, Sonic, etc), but no change.
Seems to be a software, not hardware, problem. (Runing on AMD K7, Epox motherboard, 256MB mem.) Norton diagnostics show no problems with system.
Can't find anything on Microsoft KB (not sure how to phrase search question).
Need help in diagnosing problem.
