Did something happen in the middle of the download to cause this? Can't imagine why it would mess up your registry.
Anyway, if you have 98 or 98SE, boot to a dos prompt. Type the following:
Use a space in place of the underscore. Either one might work, but I would try to fix it before I restored a previous registry backup. If you do, then of course you will be right back where you started, without the update. That might not be a bad idea though, 'cause then you could try the download again. If you do, make sure you are not running any applications at the time of the download, especially anti-virus software. Shut down everything except explorer and systray.
Let us know how you're doing. If you're running 95, scanreg will not be an option. You could of course copy it from a 98 CD if you can get your hands on one.
