I have recently installed linux. But there is a problem. When linux starts the GUI a strange hissing noise comes out of the monitor. That is right it comes out of the monitor. This does not happend in the text mode. I suspect that it has some thing to do with the horizontal and vertiacal frequency setting. My display adapter is S3 Trio64v2-DX/GX-775/785.

Sounds like your monitor is trying to tell you something. Its not made by Microsoft by any chance, is it?

I agree with TVC15 (Bowie Fan?) that your monitor and video adapter need to hum along the same frequency. Check your specs on the recommended Refresh rates and resloutions. Notorious for driver issues Uhm...that Linux is. That's the next thing to check.
