When I browse websites stored on my hard drive (websites I have designed - all the images are there) internet explorer does not shoe the images, although netscape does. Also, the preview in internet explorer (view as webpage) does not work for images.

My problems began when I changed a file association for imagefiles. Changing it back did no good.

please help.

cheers

A while back I lost the ability to view .png files, never did figure that one out...crashed the OS bigtime before I could...., but try going Internet Options (control panel or tools menu in IE) and then to the advanced tab, scroll down and see if "show pictures" is checked.

You need to make a couple simple registry edits.

Start regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif

In the right-hamd pane, the value of "Content type" should be "image/gif"
If it reads "image/bmp" or something else, change it to "image/gif".

(Double-click on "Content type" to change it).

There are two more keys that need similar editing:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpeg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg

For both, "Content type" should be "image/jpeg". If they show anything else then edit them.

As a footnote... the installation of some graphics applications is sometimes responsible for improperly changing these keys.

mjc: ypu probably need to edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png and set "Content type" to "image/png" (I'll bet it reads "image/bmp").

Excellent, thankyou, the problem is solved. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

It was only .gif .jpg and .jpeg that were showing bmp in the registry.

thanks again
