I get a blue screen of death with this number:0028:8168762e.
This occurs out of the blue, even as the computer stands idle,
and is not actually being used.
I run windows 98 version 2 with a Pentium11 266mhz cpu.
Has anyone any idea what this error message might mean?
Thanks for anything,

Now that I have achieved A+ certification,I realise how much there is still to learn...

Write down the exact error message and post it, maybe we can come up with some ideas or info, but we need the entire message.

Have you changed any hardware or installed software just before this started happening?

As Pete said, more information will be helpful. I have never found the error number to be of any value, but other text may be.

If I were to jump to one possibility, it would be overheating. Check the CPU fan operation and check the temperature monitoring program, if you have one, or in the BIOS.
