WELL......go down to the part of your desktop on the bottom right where the taskbar is next to the time.....see all of those little icons? Right click each of them except the horn looking one and DISABLE them before you run scandisk and it will work fine..... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif thanks for that how do i disable icons. ps have sent you email asking same thing please disregard iam very new at this
Also turn off the screen saver if it enabled. I like EndItAll (http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,0011NB,.html) for turning off all background tasks, except for Systray and Explorer (which must be left running).

Better yet, run scandisk from DOS. Use the [F8] key or hold down [Ctrl] during boot to get the boot menu. Choose Command Prompt Only at the C:\> propmt type scandisk_c: to run scandisk. Use a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here. To run a full unattended scandisk type scandisk_c:_/autofix_/nosummary_/surface. This lets scandisk run by itself, fix errors, run a surface scan, (takes a while, go have lunch) and without the pop-up screen telling you scandisk found an error and asking if you want to fix it. To run scandisk on all hard drives, type scandisk_all_/autofix_/nosummary_/surface and it will do the same thing for all hard drives and partitions installed.
Typing win will start windows from the command prompt, or you can restart using [Ctrl] [Alt] [Del] or the power button. [Enter] activates all commands.
