If Windows (98SE) is so smart, and PnP is supposed to recognize PnP-compliant hardware, why is my hard drive (Maxtor 40G, ATA-66)listed in Device Manager as "generic ide type 47"? My DVD drive is listed right down to the model number and version. The BIOS screen does show the HD model correctly, so why doesn't Windows?
