OK I spent hours formatting windows 2000 Professional and now when i shut down the computer it says "it safe to cut it off" So I touch the power button and it wont shut off. So I have to restart and wait for the BIOS to flash and then I have to touch the power button off. If you can help me please do??

Lets rule out the simple option first. Do you have an ATX case? If so you often need to hold the power switch in for 4 to 5 seconds before the system will power down.

This is a common problem with W2000 compatibility with some mobos...you need a fairly new ACPI BIOS (I had an Intel 440BX board from Jan 99 that did the same thing and a laptop that was new in Feb 99 that wouldn't even install 2000)

You can check to see if there's a W2000 compatible BIOS update, but in the meantime, TVC15 is right, holding the switch down for 4 or 5 seconds will shut it down...
