Help

I really hope someone can tell me what is wrong.I have a computer
a friend built me that seems possesed. The motherboard is a Atrend
7040 VIA Pc133 S370 ATX, CPU is P3-533, AtI expert 2000 128vr 32m
video, 10 gig quantum hardrive and 128 m ram. The problem is after
I install windows 98 and my other programs it will run for a couple
of days at the most, then files will go missing for my browser, doesnt
matter whidch one I have tried several. All the other programs will also
lose files so the computer is virtualy useless. Please help if you have
any ideas.

Run a good virus scanner with the most current DAT files you can get.

Check the drive for free space.

My guess is virus.

Definately sounds like a boot sector virus. If your going to format, run fdisk first and wipe the MBR and replace it. Or, try fdisk /mbr to rewrite the MBR. This is a sometimes dangerous thing as it may not come back up and you might have to reinstall the OS. However, the type of activity going on is indicative of a virus. Hope this helps.
