This is a problem that has bugged me for a while. From my Windows 2000 machine I access a shared folder on a Windows 95 or 98 machine. I get an hourglass cursor for up to maybe 20 seconds, then eventually the folder opens.
I finally found the answer here, so I thought I'd "share" it:

Now those Win 9x shares pop right open immediately!
