I have a pc from which I must replace Windows 2K pro (NTFS) with Win98. How do I proceed? Do I simply boot with a Win98 system disk and then partition and format or is there a different way to proceed with Win2K?

Win98 cant see NTFS ........so you have to decide what to do with the data if you need to save it. I guess you could Network the puters to move the data, but Win98 will need to run in Fat32 file system which as I said doesnt jive with NTFS ...AT ALL http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif The Hard Drive in question will have to be wiped clean to put Fat32 on it.

Do you want to delete the NTFS? With the fdisk you cant do that. Post back and I tell what to do cause it is a long procedure.

It might be necessary to do a Low Level format to wipe the drive. That is the FAsTEST way to clean it off.

If you have no NTFS logical drives in an Extended partition. Then you can use fdisk to repartition your drive. (It will be displayed as a NON-DOS partition.)

If an NTFS logical drive exist on an extended partition and there are no system files located on it, use Disk Administrator to delete the NTFS drive before reinstalling Windows 98.Then use FDISK to delete the Primary NTFS partition. Which will be displayed as a NON-DOS partition.

If the NTFS partition does have system files and is on an extended partition go to www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) and download AEFDISK 1.7. (Be sure to read the AEFDISK.TXT file before you use it.)This program can delete any partition on your hard drive and is a command line driven tool. (I would use it to delete all the partitions on the drive. Then use Fdisk to repartition the drive for Windows 98.)

Once the drive is partitioned the way you like, you can then format and install WIndows 98.
