Just put together an AMD900 on a A7V mobo and all new components, updated all drivers and flashed new BIOS. The computer runs very well except:
On boot up it gets as far as the desk top, loads all, then goes to the "Blue Screen of Death" and announces that on the last shut down a bunch of files were left open. When I toggle through the files left open they are all the System Tray programs. So it seems the computer is shutting down before the tray programs are being closed (I knew it was fast, but that's nuts!). Does anyone know the solution to this one, I have asked everyone I know, no one has heard of this before. Of course we have just left the computer on for weeks, but every once in awhile I shut down and end up with the same problem. Which means Ctrl-Alt-Del, shut down/start up, over and over till it works again.
Check this Microsoft link for Disabling Fast Shutdown (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q187/6/07.ASP). Please let us know how it works for you.

You might want to check this other link at Microsoft, Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q273/0/17.asp

Unfortunately it did not work. More info: we are running w98 ver.4.10. so the link to MS for the IDE comment doesn't seem to be applicable. Was going to upgrade to ME but with the new XP coming out in the fall the $299CDN price tag would be a waste, and I'm not too excited about ME. The error message is "Error OE at 0177:BFF9DBA7" first, then it goes to the "naughty boy you left files open" lecture (not exact words, but that's the meaning). Then when I Ctrl-Alt-Del it cycles to a black screen with a little white rectangle that says a certain file was open, then hit any key and it is back to the naughty boy screen, then hit any key and it goes to another small rectangle with a different file quoted as open, and so on through all the System Tray and Start up programs. Any other ideas?
Thanks for the suggestions so far.

You should be able to boot into "Safe Mode" and if you can I would disable all the programs starting up at boot.........then one by one, find out which one of them is causing the hang @ boot.....sounds like a VXD driver(virtual driver) could be the culprit as well. In safe mode, go to Programs/accessories/system tools/system information/System file checker....have win check to make sure all of your Win files are good. Have you downloaded the Service Pack for 98 yet?
