Hi. My windows 98 se recently started taking forever (well more than 1 minute anyways) to start up. It stays on that cloud screen. The bar at the bottom of the screen is going the whole time. It used to go into windows within probably 10 seconds or so. I recently added a ethernet card, but I don't know why that would matter, but that is the only thing I can think of. My system is: Amd k6-3 450+ 64 meg ram and windows 98 se. I have the epox mvp3g5 motherboard also. Thanks for the help.

Unless you currently need that NIC I would disable it in the Device Manager. You should notice a faster boot-up. Found a cool new way to get into the DM press and hold the "windows" key then press the "pause/break" key. Temp solution http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'd agree about the NIC. In addition, dump the trash (Recycle Bin), do a disk cleanup, scandisk, and defrag.
