My computer will not power on after being shut down (start>shutdown) for over 6 hours. Pressing the ATX powerswitch does NOTHING - No whir, No post, no keyboard. It's as if it is unplugged with one EXCEPTION-the On-Board LED is lit. To turn it on, I must 1. turn the power supply off (button on back of case) 2. Watch the On-Board Led dim completely and 3. turn the powersupply button back to On. After this the ATX power switch will work and computer does beautifully.

I have sought input from the retailer, the motherboard company, and just recently the powersupply company without much success. Here are the specs:
AMD Athlon 1200Mhz, Asus A7V KT133 motherboard v 1.02; Sparkle FPS 350-60 BN;IBM Desktar HD; Matrox Video Card; Plexwriter 12/10/32A CD-RW; Pioneer DVD-ROM; Creative Labs sound card. Windows 2000-Professional. I have current Bios and drivers.

I've conducted all the common-sense tests: power cable connections, etc.

Would appreciate guidance, diagnostic ideas, etc.

Beth

I am in rush to make it to night class, so I will try and post a better answer later. I think you have a power supply that could be overheating. One way to find the source of your trouble is if you have an alternate power supply to use. That will let you know if it is the soft swith or the power supply. Dig around in the PC Guide for power supply trouble shooting and maybe check out www.hardwarehell.com (http://www.hardwarehell.com) .
