View Full Version : Floppy Disk Seek
Hi all, I know I've read the answer to this problem a good few times but now I need it I can't find it anywhere! I'd be really grateful if someone could tell me how to stop some windows versions checking the floppy disk at regular intervals during use.
Thanks

it is a good possibility that your anti virus app is the culprit.
it may be scheduled to check all disks every so often.

right off the top of my head i can't rmemeber where it is in windows, but it keeps a log of drives accessed, etc-you can delete that log-or beter yet stick a gfloppy in the drive, access it-then pulll it out and access your hardrive, that should stop it from happening. If it's doin it from start up then go to your system properties and click on performance; then the file system tab-look for " floppy disk " tab, there will be a little check box saying " look for floppy ever time windows starts ", make sure it's unchecked. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Also you might want to see if you have fast find from Microsoft hanging around. Goto control panel and If you see find fast, disable it

Hi, thanks for your replies, I think Fast Find is the likely culprit, I haven't had chance to find out as yet as it's a machine at work.

Also Remove any Links in your favorites folder that point to the floppy.
