Please Help! I loaded W95 on an old system and then started to clean up what I thought was not needed. All the files I deleted are in the Recycle Bin, so I rebooted. System returned with "Invalid system disk". Is there a way to get the deleted files out of the Recycle Bin and continue.
Right now I using my boot up disk trying to find those deleted files....Please help.
Thanks
I forgot where Undelete could be found, so I'll quote this ZDNET (http://www.zdnet.com/computershopper/edit/cshopper/content/9906/402070.html) link.
"Windows 95 includes a number of the favorite utilities from the DOS 6.x days. That includes UNDELETE.EXE, which you can use to restore a file that has been deleted (even if you've emptied the Recycle Bin, although it won't work if you've saved other files that have overwritten the deleted file). You'll find them in the folder Other\Oldmsdos on the Windows 95 CD-ROM; unfortunately, Undelete is not included on the Windows 98 CD."
You will need a Startup disk to boot with that can load a CD driver so you can access the CD. A Windows 98 Startup disk will do the job. Here is a download Startup disk (http://www.myshed.net/disk9x.html) if you do not have one.

You can also get Undelete here (http://www.ixian.com/ead/misc/win95-undelete.shtml). The Old MS-DOS Utilities link looks like the best to try.

If the "Invalid System Disk" error message is the only problem, you might be able to get the system to boot by booting to a win95 start up disk and at the A:\> prompt type sys_c: using a space in place of the underscore used here. That will copy the system files to the hard drive and make it bootable again.
To get into directories in DOS that have long file names, type the directory name exactly as it appears in the listing. Recycle Bin is shortened to recycl~1 by DOS, type it just like that and it should open the directory.
I've never understood why MS did that, DOS is limited to 8 character filenames, so they make every directory in sight 12-20 characters or more...Try finding which MS directory you need in DOS...Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Front Page...All are shortened to micros~1, micros~2, etc.
If you get results by copying the system files to the hard drive, then you can go back and replace everything else needed from the Recycle Bin in Windows.
