Hello!

System basics: Gateway 2000 (200 MHz, 16MB RAM), Win95 [a gift to my stepson from his mother]

I noticed that kalitechnis had a problem with scandisk not starting if Windows is not shut down incorrectly. In my case, Win 95 THINKS that it hasn't been shut down correctly and proceeds to run scandisk -- including a full surface scan. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

So...my questions:
1) How do I change the parameters of scandisk (i.e., is there some Win95 Startup file where these are specified)?
2) Why is it thinking that Windows wasn't shut down properly? It always displays "Safe to turn off your computer now."

Does the "nastygram" text message appear, saying Windows was shut down improperly? If not, scandisk might have been selected as a scheduled task, set to run at start-up.

Here's an index (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q287/9/14.ASP) of MS articles about scandisk. This (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q179/3/06.ASP) talks about the Task Scheduler. This one (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q273/0/17.ASP) and this one (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q290/6/68.ASP) are titled with your symptom, but neither are shown as applying to Win95.
