hello,
I am starting to smell another Win ME rat. This will be the forth time for me to reload/clean install ME if it is.

I cant connect to the web on my Win ME partition of this PC. Am on 98 now. so I know the modem works. But I checked as much of it(properties/more info) as I could anyways. And I got the .log that shows all the steps it went thru, if that will help. I didnt reload the drivers.
Looked in Device manager-nothing.
I reinstalled the protocols TCP/IP, I have tried 5 different ISP's at this point. None can get thru the set up. Was on ATT. and of course they dont give any tech help for the 7/7 plan. (which I am getting rid of). I thought they wer the problem at first.
so if its not the modem, the protocols, and all the ISP's cant be bad....
I was thinking about reinstalling IE and outlook express.
ATT setup would get as far as letting me pick the the access numbers, then start retrieving something else and stop. The icon in the task bar shows as connected, and so does the setup window, untill that point.
I can ping my own PC but no servers...
I really dont know what else to check for.
If any one has ANY ideas I would VERY much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

WIN ME ahh!!!!Let me think, uhhh WinME,what can i say .It sucks.Ive dealt with ME for about a month and thats all it took.I guess you can say i divorced it.I never use or attempt to use ME ever again. And if one of my friends have it i will personally uninstall it from there system, no charge.Stick with 98SE , its a good friend. As far as the tcp/ip protocol , its messed up beyond repair, reinstall win 98 on that system and get back on top of things. At least thats my opinion, and I think others will agree.Windows 2000 is good too so use 2000 or 98.Trust me.

As I do appreciate your advice, at this time I can not go that route. If you noticed in my post, I do have 98. and would never get rid of it.
This is how I learn. yea ME sucks, but ppl use it and when I need to answere a question, I dont want to give the advice "get rid of it".
Plus, when I get on a mission, it seems I cant stop untill I get answers.
So I will keep trudging thru untill its fixed or XP comes out, and I put THAT PROBLEM on the partition.
And just out of curiosity, what gave the TCP/IP being beyond repair away?
So I know what to look for in the future.
thanks again

Several thoughts. Just read a post where an older scanner didn't like ME and the person needed to go get upgraded software. We had to buy an HP program for ME to work with an older tape drive..same problem..so I wonder if maybe you need an ME driver for the modem? Another thing: recently the IE 5.5 repair tool actually fixed a problem..cool! 5.5 Repair (http://uscash.net/tips/expl5repair.html)..couldn't hurt to try that just to be sure you've covered all possible fixes.

There are regulars here that use and like ME. Not me, http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif , but some better than me.
