i need help please.

i just formatted my HD and then tried to do a clean install but i could not figure it out. first i loaded just the cd thinking it would act as a boot cd for me but no such luck. then i tried using the win98 boot disk so i could at least get access to the cd drive but when i typed setup, it said "cannot run in dos" (???) so then i tried changing the boot option in my bios to the cd instead of the floppy but still had not luck.

finally i just gave up and reinstalled win98 then i did a "clean install" with winxp from win98. now my problems are first when i finally did get winxp pro up and running somehow my e: drive became my system drive (this sucks cuz i never chose that and i dont remember a option asking me for which drive to install in & i want my c: to be my system drive) and how exactly do i do a real clean install. i mean how do i install win xp pro if i have no o/s in the pc?

someone please help cuz i'm stumped.

Hi MangMang have you ever installed W2000? you have to create a set of boot disks to launch it, or you can boot from the cd. Here's how i loaded WXP pro; First you can boot with a W98se startup disk, just partition your drive(s) and format them as normal Now get into your Bios and make sure you have your CD drive as the default Boot drive then just boot off of the WXP pro cd, just like using W2000. If you have W2000 you can use the 4 boot floppies from it to load W XP

Now all of this assumes you have a Win XP OEM CD, if you downloaded a " trial " http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif version of it, it can get a little trickier. i don't recall where i found it last time, but do a google search on XP and you'll find several sites that describe making a boot disk from the Beta's.

Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
