Hi;

I'm using Win98se, it's a P111 667MHz machine, with 256Mb ram, 32Mb video card etc.

My question is;

Do I need to "maximize convential memory under DOS" using the following command lines?
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DEVICEHIGH=
DOS=HIGH,UMB etc

As I understand it, these are old commands needed for Win95 and they serve no useful purpose in 98se, am I correct in saying this?

I do enjoy configuring PC, so as it runs at its best but; I'm not so sure the above command lines are appropriate for Win98 se.

Hoping that someone can put me on the right track.

Thanks,
Dazzler.

The question is, do you actually use any DOS applications that can't be run in a Windows DOS box, any thing you run in native or pure DOS? These apps could old games or some office type products that you really like, if not then you don't really need to optimize DOS...they only serve a useful prpose if you need them, if you don't then you don't need to bother...

Thanks, mjc;

I don't run anything in native or pure DOS, so from my point of view, you've answered my question.

Thanks,
