I'm running Windows 2000 Pro on a P3 500. In it I have the following sticks of ram:

256mb PC-133,128mb PC-100& 64mb PC-100.

I once heard that a system runs faster when working with one big piece of ram. Is this true? Or am I better off using all 3 together?

I also want to know if by tweaking windows virtual memory, will the system run any faster? My hard drives are 10gig and 40gig.

With the above memory you are running your memory at pc100.
If you system supports pc133 I’d install another stick (256) of pc133 and remove the pc100

Yes if you tweak Virtual memory you can improve system performance .
Locking the swap file to one size avoids the time win spends increasing and decreasing the size of the swap file. It also helps avoid fragmentation of the swap file.

Rick,

so are you saying that if i have pc-133 ram installed with pc-100 ram, my system memory will only run at pc-100?

Yes.
By default the system should read the memory speed and set the speed to the slowest stick.
This avoids Over clocking the ram and errors caused by over clocking it.

Since you have a P3 500 it doesn't matter whether you use PC100 or 133 since the FSB of your system is 100mhz.

To speed up your pagefile performance, put it on a different drive than the one that your OS is installed on...
