What's the deal with XP's compatibility list? Half the stuff I check isn't on the list. I can't believe a WD200BB 7200rpm hard drive isn't compatible with Windows xp. Won't most (all) new hardware be compatible?

Who knows...some of the stuff on the list definitely won't work but others ??? Maybe there is some sort of arcane formula that the WD doesn't subscribe to (like maybe an ID number????)...remember the activation sequence will be built upon a hash of your hardware components, so I would imagine that if a certain component doesn't give out the required info then XP won't like it. (hmmm...that sounds logical enough it just may actually be the case...this of course is all speculation on my part because I really don't know the in depth behind the scenes stuff at MS)

I wouldn’t worry about the Hard drive not working under XP.
It should be controlled by the bios and hard drive controller not the O/S

Unless you have one of those drives that requires windows to format it and or access the full capacity of the drive.

Best cure is always a Hardware cure ( Bios Update or new controller ) Not rely on software
