Hi! When I started my PC, "Office 97 Binder" starts as well as "CD Sampler" (asking me to introduce my Win98 CD in the CD reader) I checked the START menu: nothing, then I tried MSCONFIG: went through Win.ini, System.ini and Start and I did not find any reference to these programs.... How can I eliminate these programs to start automatically? Thanks, Alain

Well if you went thru msconfig while you were in there did you look at the start up tab and look to see if these programs had a check in them??

If you have no reference to these programs there you are probobly going to have to do a re-install there is a reason that it is asking you to put in your 98-CD it needs input. post back and please post to the forum and not my E-Mail. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Concerning the request for the Win98 CD, it just asking for CD Sampler which I tried and just do nothing except installing a demo for sound stuff, which I don't need and don't care for!!
Concerning "Office 97 Binder" I don't understand why it starts evberytime. How to disable this program?

Unfortunately it did not help....but thanks again
If you are comfortable with Regedit.
You may want to do a search in it for Runonce.
Look at the folders that are displayed.
Directly above some on the Runonce folders you will see Run folders
You may find the culprit there.

There is a program called "Startup Control Panel" that you can install...it gives you a startup icon in your control panel and you can shut off any startup programs you want...

1) I went to Regedit, found Runonce: nothing there, then went to RUN: NAV, ScanRegistry, SystemTray.
Then RUN- : Critical update,Load power profile, mdac_runonce, register Mediaring, StillImage Monitor, TaskMonito
Then RUNONCEEX: nothing !
2) I installed StartupCPL, but it doesn't show the 2 prog. which bother me!...
I found CD Sampler Interactif 7 in the list of programs, I tried to uninstall it: impossible, a log file is missing and Win98 refuse to remove this prog.....
I'm desperated to find a solution!
Thank you for your help

It seems very strange to me that msconfig does not list all the programs activated when Windows loads. Have you carefully analyzed the list displayed whtn you click on the Startup Tab? Every time I have encountered this problem on my systam and on other systems, msconfig has had the offending program listed.
Perhaps the programs you are looking for have a name you do not recognize. Perhaps they are invoked by something else in the list displayed by msconfig.

go back into regedit and use the edit/find command, type in the names of these offending programs and let it search your registry for any mention of them, then mack a backup of each key it finds, and delete it-if you turn out to need it later you can always add it back to the registry.
Office bindry is part of MS office, do you have it installed? You could also gointo your program files folder and search for a folder with the culprit(s) names and delete them there.

This (http://www.startupmgr.com/startupmgr_detect.htm) is a good site for seeing what progs start up - it searches everywhere. And it lets you disable them. The good thing is you do not even have to run anything. It will ask you to accept, but do not worry - THIS IS NOT A VIRUS or spyware or adware or anything. I swear on my mother's grave. And no, I do not get any money for promoting this... This probably wont help you if you have gotten this far - but its just an idea. Hope it helps.

A couple of great sites for what to do with start-up programs (which ones you need vs. which ones can go, plus ways to eliminate them).
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm
and

Hope this helps.
