could someone tell me what the minimum componets are needed to get a computer to boot up?

bare bones: Working monitor, keyboard, mouse, RAM, mobo with cmos battery, power supply, hard drive, cpu, at least on-board video, cdrom drive (not essential but reccomended especially if you're gonna install an operating system without using a mountain of floppy disks and if the hard drive is not bootable you will need a floppy drive and boot disk. That should get you to where you can set your bios settings and f/disk and format the hard drive.

Just to see if it will boot and nothing else,

Motherboard
CPU
RAM
video card
Monitor
Keyboard.
Power supply comes in handy now and then too...

To get any further than memory count you'll need the other components in the above list.
