help with floppy drive

please, please help my floppy drive is not working.When the computer boots up the light goes on and all of the cables are inserted correctly at the back of the computer. I am running windows ME which enables me to restore my computer to an earlier date, this fixes the problem if i choose the correct date but later on it does the same problem so i dont need a new drive. please please help me as i have run out of ideas of what to try next !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem on a newly-built system. Try removing the floppy drive in the Device Manager, then shutdown and reboot. It may work normally after being redetected.
