I already have windows 2000 installed on my machine, which had intially been shipped to me with Windows millenium from DELL.

Now, I want to reinstall windows millenium on the machine and also keep my windows 2000 installation. To do this do I have to remove windows 2000, install window me and then install windows 2000, or can I directly install windows millenium.

I use Partition Magic it makes it so sooooo much eazier. Push couple buttons and you are done no data loss. It also includes boot magic. They are other ways but I like this one for ease.

One day I will be a pro, Thanks Andy

You can do it without any other software, you just have to be careful...these directions are borrowed, but I forget the source...they do work...done it twice...

Boot into Windows 2000, and create an emergency repair disk. To do this, open the Backup application in Windows 2000, under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Backup. The first screen has three buttons, one of which is the "Create Emergency Repair Disk" button. Click this button and follow the on-screen instructions to create your disk.
Once you've created the disk, boot your system with your Windows 98 CD. Boot into the Windows 98 Setup. Follow the install instructions as normal from there to finish your installation of Windows 98.
After Windows 98 has been installed, the boot screen asking if you want to run Windows 2000 disappears. The Windows 98 setup program is not dual-boot aware, so it deletes the Windows 2000 boot sector. This is why you created the Windows 2000 emergency repair disk. Boot your system with your Windows 2000 CD, and proceed into Windows 2000 setup. The screen asks if you want to install Windows 2000, repair your current installation of Windows 2000 or quit setup. Choose the repair option. The following screen will ask if you want to use the recovery console to repair or the emergency repair disk. Choose the emergency repair disk option. The next screen asks if you want to do a manual or fast repair. Choose the manual repair option. Three check boxes will appear, including: "inspect your startup environment," "verify your Windows 2000 files" and "inspect the boot sector." Uncheck the option to verify your Windows 2000 files and then continue. Windows 2000 uses your emergency repair disk to repair your boot sector and add the dual-boot entry into your startup boot screen.

When all else fails, read the instructions.
