i have a Packard Bell system with a 20G HD, 2G of that partition is a non-dos recoverey system. i also have that recoverey system on 3 cds, what i want to do is put in a new 40G HD and use those disks to reinstall the os, but will it partition and format to the new 40G HD or will it just do it to the old 20G size.
forgive me, im young. Jiggy http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi If the Bios will recognize a 40 Gig hard drive then it will detect the 40 gig and partition and format it.

The restore disks will only set the drive up as 20GB's-since that's how it's bat files have been written.
However you can get around this by partitioning the drive yourself into (2) 20GB drives-then you can use the restore disk to load winodws and the other programs on the restore disks to the primary 20GB ( C drive ) and use the new D drive for your extra storage.
If you can try to get ahold of an OEM copy of windows OS; it'll let you get rid of the retail crap that vendors put on your system when you purchase it from a store. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
