I have a new Dell PC with WinXP pre-installed, of course none of my old hardware work on it, no drivers or none developed yet. So I installed a new hard drive with Win 98se, everything works. What I would like to do is dual boot this PC, but I installed Win 98se with the Win XP drive disconnected. They were both installed on C: independently, so I have no boot.ini file. Is there any way to set up boot.ini without reinstalling Win XP? I don't want to lose the installed software from Dell. Also Win 98se is fat32, Win XP ntfs.
Thanks, gutter

>> I am confused here at this point. you say a NEW dell with winxp installed.. so EVERYTHING should work just fine. What "old hardware"??

>> what you want to try is to partition the drive with win98 on it and install XP to a seperate partition. (on the same HDD.)

>>you need to have win98 on it first and then add winxp, also winxp can be installed using FAT32 as well.
if you put your winxp cd in your cd drive and choose "explore this cd" option you sould see that there already is a winboot folder there that you can use.

Sorry for the confusion, everything in the new system works but old hardware, PhotoSmart printer no driver HP isn't going to make one, AFGA 1212P scanner no driver, digital film reader no driver.
So I installed Win 98se on a new drive, but I removed the original drive with Win XP on it. So I now have two drives in the PC one with XP and one with 98se. I can not dual boot because no boot.ini was created when Win 98se was installed, because it was the only drive there. If I boot to 98se, by changing the ide cable, all my stuff works, when I boot to XP, again by changing the ide cable, all the Dell software works.
