application not responding

Iam having new trouble with my contact manager ACT and IE5.5 closing. when i click the X to close the program. The disk just sits there and continues accessing you can hear it. I then do a ctrl alt del and notice either IE or ACT is not responding.

any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

Try this first,go to control panel in my computer,click on add and remove programs,click on internet explorier, click on remove, then click on repair, reboot, and see if this works. If not post back.
