Not positive, but I'd say restore the registry with a backup made before installing msn messenger. msgsrv32 refers to msn messenger.
Here's what a searh of the MS Knowledge Database turned up:
Q222629 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q222/6/29.ASP)
Q262998 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q262/9/98.ASP)
For the sound problem check the programs to see what's default player, and check in volume controls to be sure wave volume is turned up.

Sorry Pete but Msgsrv32.dll is the dll that handles error messages in Windows. Whenever it gets an error messsage it is unable to handle it will stop responding and display an error like the one Jangolin is getting. In this case msgsrv32 isn't the problem, alswwt16.dll is.
Here's some information that may help explain what is happeining. I would guess that some driver is no longer behaving as it should. You say you just added a CDRW... try uninstalling the "burner" software. ( like Adaptec EZ cd writer). I would also do as Pete suggeted and uninstall the MSN upgrades.
Hope this helps
Msgsrv32.dll is a Microsoft Windows 95 dynamic-link library (DLL) that handles
error message codes for Windows-based drivers. If Msgsrv32.dll encounters an
error code that it is unable to handle, Msgsrv32.dll may stop responding.
