I am trying to network 2 computers. One is a 200Mhz pentium with 98SE installed. The other is a 500Mhz pentium with Win2k installed. I installed Netgear 311 & 312 (has wake feature) cards. I can access the 200 and use it's printer or read & access files http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif . But everytime I try to access the 500 I am rejected because it can't verify the password to the server http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif . There is no password or server http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif . I can't install Win2k to the 200 it only has 64megs of ram. Is there a patch or option that will allow 98SE to run as a peer? Help me, my wife wants this mess of the dining table http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks!

The fastest way to fix that problem is to enable the "guest" account.

Right click "my computer" on the win2k box and choose "manage". Open "local users and groups" then "users". Double click the guest account and deselect the "account is disabled " box.

This is a not a very secure way to share your computer. So you might want to add a user account and password to the Win2k box at a later date and use that information for logging on.

Good Luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks Ghost. I have been fighting this on a 5 computer network. I run daul boot on my system, 98SE and 2K PRO. Now I can access 2K from all computers, again many thanks. This one made me smile bigger.

Thanks Ghost. That did the trick. I included a password to keep the gremlins who have access to the small computer from accessing the main one. Networking isn't all I thought it would be, you can access files and supposedly share the printer-Win2k never likes the driver on the other cpu, keeps saying it's disabled....and you can't open programs on the other unit so I have to change the way we get email, so if you check on the downstairs unit, the upstairs hasn't pulled info and made it unavailable....I guess when you upgrade your computer you upgrade your problems http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Thanks again..
