View Full Version : Win98SE Resource problems.

I loaded Win98 SE on a Dell PII 266, with 256MB ram. I loaded the OEM version by renaming Win.com, and installing from CD. After loading the OS, I went to Microsoft and downloaded IE6.0. After a good session of Internet browsing, printing, checking e-mail, and maybe a little solitaire, the resources are down to 66%. I actually had a system crash because of this resource problem. After bootup the resources are at 88%. Is IE6.0 the culprit, or is 98 not setup properly? With Win95SE the PC would go for days without this type of problem, but with 98 it happens after just a couple of hours. Before 98 I was using IE5.5. Thanks for any comments that might help.

win98se uses much more resources than win95, and I have heard allot of recent complaints regarding IE6 with win98.

try 5.5 again...my suggestion.

Thanks Sea69. I uninstalled IE6, and downloaded IE5.5 w/sp2 last night. I wasn't aware that IE5.5 was still available when I looked at the list on MS. I thought that it was just a service pack for IE5.5, and thats why I went for 6.0. So we'll see how this works out.
