Hello
I am not to familiar with external HDs, and research a few areas for a 80G HD. This drive uses a USB port, inwhich I have 2.
I presently have 30G internal IDE, the external one is also IDE and compatible to 98se edition, w2000 Pro.
I have a ax34 MB 800 MHZ. If someone has a little experiance on external HDs, using USB ports please give me a scope on the viability of problems I could possibly forsee??
Thank you.

I'm definately no expert,
but l'm just after reading a post on a Linux newsgroup saying that even if you had USB 2 it would still be no good for tranfering data at a decent speed.
The poster recommended SCSI.
Don't know if that answers your question.

Hi atc_traffic856
I too would like to better understand the pros and cons of such a HDD; especially from someone with actual experience of using one. There is some useful info. on the PCGuide HERE (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/sf.htm) which is certainly worth a read to be going on with. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok Thank you, Fran and Paul for your reply to External HDD.
Yes a SCSI Interface system has its own individual bus. Rather then the IDE interface controller pertains strictly to the HDD only. With the SCSI
HDD sontroller I would have to use the SCSI adapter card, and of course I would need the Mother Board to support the slot. USB 2.0 would pass data a little faster but not much, but it is liviable. I will ask and seek more knowledge on the advantages and disadvantages. The Skuzzy Interface {SCSI}
is probably the best way to go if I am to use the external to its full efficiency for this type of controller supports a better daisy chain for more peripherals.
