I'm typing this leter out ahead of time to save time for typing it over & over. I need some help with my OS. I seem to have deleted the icon for my E drive (CD/RW). On my desk-top I click on the my computer icon and the next screen to pop-up the icon for my E drive is gone. I've tried putting a blank RW disk into it and since I got auto start enabled the screen came up for coping or recording on to this CD. Next time I tried to copy a document and send it to my E drive, but the E drive was not avalible. Yesterday, I created a shortcut to the E drive on my desk-top. I right clicked the icon, and tried to send to my cumputer. Only thing that this did was to put another icon onto my desk-top. Next, I tried to drag and drop the icon onto the correct screen, but the computer wouldn't allow it. The next thing I tried was to copy / paste, and cut /paste, but neighter worked. I heard about installing windows 98 over the existing OS, but the install wouldn't work due to the anti-virus programs being enable. So, I dis-abled Norton and stoped inoculate from real time. I still kept receiving that due to an anti-virus program...... The computer was even rebooted, and I used Ctrl+Alt Delete to stop the programs that I didn't need except Explorer, Systray, Starter. Nothing seemed to work.
I've tried E-mailing the screen savers @ Tech TV, and even Morgan @ Tech TV, but no one answered me back yet, and its going on (3) three weeks now. Can you please help me out.
I'm running on a Intel Pentium III @ 548 MHZ. If you need more info about my system please let me know.
Thank-you

Is the CD drive being detected during the bootup? You should see it right after it detects the hard drive.

You may also have hard drive antivirus enabled in your BIOS setup.

Need to go to Device Manager and click on the + at CD-ROM
and see if the CD-RW is being recognized.

If it isn't remove a cover off the PC and make sure the ribbon
cable is still plugged in.

If it is boot-up in Safe Mode and remove it in Device Manager.
Re-boot and re-install the CD-RW.

How (order of) are your drives etc, configured on your ribbon cables?

Luck.

Do You have Tweak UI installed ?
If so go to the Control Panel and start Tweak UI
Under the My Computer Tab in Tweak UI make sure that your drive letters all have check marks in the boxes.

Any drive that is not checked will not display on your system.(hidden from all menus)
Any drive letter that is checked But has a red x under the icon can’t be found by the system.

I use a program to tweak my OS it is called Xteq X-setup. Yes, I do think that this could be the problem. I've already been to Xteq.com to see if they could help.

If you are using X-setup, you can go in and find the plugin that hides the drive letters and make sure that they are all showing...I think that it is one that requires a reboot..

Someon told me to use the Xteq plug in's by scrolling down to Appearance> Files&Folders> Drives> Show/Hide drives and see if the CD/RW drive is checked. Guess what? I've got File&Folders but not Drives. Does anyone know how to make a plug in for Drives?

What version are you running?

If it is one of the 6.x versions use the updater and update all the plugins, and that should grab the one you need.....
