After fdisk and reformatting I try to run Win 98 SE setup and I get this error message. I read in a couple places that I can copy files to the hard drive and run them from there, will that fix this problem?

Ok,The frist thing you need to do is boot your computer with a boot-disk that has cd/rom drivers on it.If you do not have a boot disk, you can grab one at http://www.bootdisk.com. Boot from the disk,Place the win98 cd in your cd/rom,Type in "D:\win98\"(D: being your CD/ROM,if it is not"D" then use the drive letter"),then in that Dir. type "setup.exe".After that it's just follow the windows set-up http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif.If that don't do it,post back and someone else will take a shot at it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif,good luck.

If the win98 se disk you are using is an Upgrade disk.
You may have one of those requires win98 to be pre-installed
In that case you will need to install 98 first edition.
The run the setup / install for the upgrade
If you want to avoid having to put the win98se disk into the cd-rom drive each time you make a change in the future.
You can copy the files from the cr-rom :\win98\ folder to a folder on your hard drive
If you run setup from the new folder with the cab in it.
You not have to insert the original cd in a drive

Thanks for all your suggestions! After experimenting with your ideas I found that it was the Win 98 SE disk that was my problem. I tossed in NT and it started right up. Thanks for your time and help! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
