On my lap top (OS Windows 95, Vs. 4.0.0.950) I can connect to my IPS. But when trying to use Eudora, Netscape 4.7 or IE 5.0 nothing happens (no bytes sent nor received). Any idea what's missing ?

What do you mean when you say "no bytes sent"? I don't know that you will see bytes sent. Do you mean when you try to send e-mail, nothing happens? You might try contacting your ISP, that's one thing you pay them for...tech support.

Dear Jumby:
The ISP connection icon in the task bar flashes when bytes are actual sent and received. If you right click on the icon you can see the status of your connection which also tells you how many bytes have been sent. As I stated no bytes are transmitted when I use any browser or E-mail. Any useful help ?

Just a couple of ideas: a) Do you have ZoneAlarm installed? If so you have to give permission to each individual URL to connect to the net.
b) The modem speed may be too slow, i.e. fast enough to connect to your ISP, but not fast enough to connect to any other URL.
I once had this problem: able to collect my email from AOL but unable to connect to any other website.
Hang on in here - someone is bound to come up with a solution.

Think Pianorak is right on both counts. My husband recently couldn't get connected after restoring his entire system...turned out that he hadn't told ZA to let browser on the Net. Fixed that problem. Another time, I had similar difficulties..would show being online, but not communicating well enough to even get email. I had to call ISP tech support to get that problem fixed, but suspect that the ISP itself was having problems because it reoccurred occasionally. (We have since changed our ISP and haven't yet had that problem again.) If you haven't changed anything recently, or installed anything that might have affected your modem, I would suggest you call your ISP. And, as an odd thought, have you checked/changed the phone line connection recently? Reason I ask is that so called "line noise" can contribute to a bad connection too.
I was in at my ISP yesterday paying my bill and we were discussing a couple of things...one of which was modems and connections. He (one of the owners) was saying that most of the software that ISP use has phased out or is phasing out support for 14.4K modems and some is even dropping 28.8K support....basically you will be able to establish a connection, but after that nothing, no surfing.
So...what speed modem do you have on this machine?
A couple of others suggested checking things like Zone Alarm settings, what about other settings...like in TCP/IP properties...you may want to contact your ISP and walk through with them as to what they should be, just to make sure that the settings are correct.
Kay, brings up another good point, about line noise, try a diferent phone jack or location, also a different phone cable, between the computer and the phone jack.
