Hello. A friend of mine ran some applications on the Windows95 system in his department lab and kept getting "No Sufficient Memory message". He reboot and after the Windows95 screen appeared a second and got the message:" High Memory Area (HMA) is not available, the Low Memory Area is used instead". The computer comes back to DOS prompt mode. What problem it might be and how to do with it? Thanks a bunch!

ayongyongya,
If the high memory area (HMA) is not available. Then MS-DOS will be loaded into low memory. If you want to load MS-DOS into the high memory area, check your CONFIG.SYS file to make sure the HIMEM extended-memory manager has been loaded using the DEVICE command & the high memory area is available before trying to load MS-DOS.

This error can occur as a result of many things...one of the most recurring is that there are too many programs running "resident" or there is NOT ENOUGH Hard Drive Space to initialize the swap file(Full Hard Drive)...below is a list of additional possible causes: http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/psssearch.asp?SPR=w95&T=B&KT=ALL&T1=7d&LQ=Insufficient+Memory&S=F&A=T&DU=C&FR=0&D=winmil%2Bor%2Bwin98x%2Bor%2Bwin95x%2Bor%2Bcustse rv%2Bor%2Bc rossnet&LPR=win95&LNG=ENG&VR=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fsupport%3B http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fservicedesks% 2Fwebcasts&CAT=Support&VRL=ENG&SA=GN&Go.x=25&Go.y=20
