I have a ~1 year old PC with ME. For some reason, lately when I delete items in windows explorer, they do not go to the recycle bin, although the dialogues says "deleting to recycle bin". No doubt, I have set something that did this, but not sure what/where. Any ideas?

Thanks
BA

Hi there BA
Try right clicking on the bin icon and go to properties. Check to make sure that you have not selected "Do not remove to recycle bon" (or some such like)

Thanks Ernie. I checked the properties dialogue, and although the box "Do not move files to recycle bin, Remove files immediately when deleted" is NOT checked, the files are still NOT going to the recycle bin. This setting had initially been set on the "global" page, so I set it specifically for the C drive, still no files going to recycle. The setting for amount of recycle bin max size is 10% of drive, or 3.72 gig. I'm stumped. Any other ideas?

Thanks all,

BA

I'm not a registry buff! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif After doing a little research on the subject it appears that the "Monopoly" version of file delete resulting in "Do not pass go!" go immediately to "Jail" might be in play here. Or, in "Computer Speak," do not go to "Recycle" go immediately into "Oblivion!"

HERE'S (http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/943/) a read on Registry setting that could accomplish what's happening to you.

I'm not sure exactly what you would need to look for in the Registry, nor what to do about it....but it seems the possibility exists that the settings could be altered.

Or, the answer might be found HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q136517). I think this one has a bit more promise for resolving the issue! Hopefully, it would be as easy as MSKB makes it out to be!

Just a thought, your Recycle Bin is not full is it? I work with large files moving data to CDRW media and then deleting files from the hard drive, and if the Bin is full, the files are not refrenced to the Recycle Bin.

Good fortune...
