Right-click on My Computer and Properties, or go to Control Panel and double-click on system. Click on the "Advanced" tab, then click on "Settings" in the Performance box, then click on the "Advanced" tab, then click on "Change" down in the Virtual memory box.
there you should see the windows recommended page file size, and you will see that can also turn page file off.
realistically, you can try any amount from 4MB to whatever M$ recommends.
but it must be at least 4MB's.
this is all I know on it, there are others here that know much more.

XP has a way of 'fixing itself'.
I just saw that nobody had answered you and wanted to make sure you weren't just hanging there.

Thnx i hate it when a Post just sits there with no replies, i really hate it when there are a bumch of views and nobody takes the time to respond thansk Seal lol
Well its back, i dont know what the deal is. Its normally only when i shut down. Everytime I shutdown the computer it comes up with this error. Your page-file is too small windows is increasing the size. It is ONLY when i shutdown. I downloaded CACHEMAN 5.1 AN AWESOME PROGRAM!!! and i have monitored Page File Usage and it is only like 12 megs and i have like 200 megs set to it. I dont let windows specify b/c they use more than they need IMO. I have it set to minimum 200 and a max of 200.
BTW i have 256 ram right now and XP doesnt seem like the fastest thing in the world. I know its a Memory hog do you think i should upgrade to 512 ram. Thanks for all the help
Elad
without changing anything else, try letting windows manage it...it may be that XP just doesn't like letting go of control.

mine is:
Initial size: 382
Maximum size: 768
Minimum allowed: 2MBs
Recommended: 382
currently allocated: 382
in Performance Options>> Advanced TAB, under "processor scheduling" I have Adjust set to "Programs"
under "Memory usage" I have "adjust for best performance of: "System cache".
mine works- not saying it's correct but no kind of errors like you're having.
I have 800-athlon/256 sdram, and a compaq.

Ok mine is set to use a greater store of memory to Programs is this normal should it be like this i have 256 megs of ram ( i know XP is a mem hog, should i get 512) i figured you would want more "memory" to programs, i guess memory means RAM right or does it mean pagefile also, just wondering what SHOULD it be set at what do all you XP experts have it set at, anyone else know anyother tweaks i can use to boost performance, also do you XPers outthere use all of that eye candy, if you turn some of it off, which ones do you turn off, i like the eye candy but i know it degrades some performance the first time i right click on the desktop for a while it can take up to 2 seconds to bring up the lil menu ok bye
