My windows registration file is corrupt.

My PC reverted back to an old version and now none of my aplications will work and all my settings have gone awol. ie screen res is really low, sound doesnt work even the keyboard characters are different.

I dont have a proper backup of the registration because my CDwriter always says drive is not accessible when I have tried to backup in the past.

1) Is there a way to get my registration back?

2) What file contains the registration and where did windows find the backup file?

3) If I cant get my registration back what do I need to do?

4) How do I get my PC to recognise the drivers without having to reinstall them? (it alwasys says I have the latest version even thoough I have yellow warning signs all over them)

Anyones help would be much obliged as I am a PC novice and the company Tech Support department who I bought the PC from are worse that useless (Mesh).

Thanx

In all likelyhood your backup copy of the registry is named something like system.da0 and user.da0 if you did a registry restore; however, it is still corrupt and not usable. The unfortunate thing is that if you have changed the video, audio and other devices since the 1st registry was created.......then you have to reinstall the drivers for all of those devices now.....I hope you have your drivers...if not, you can get them on the net at the various mfg. websites or at http://www.windrivers.com/company.htm Hope it works out...Given what you indicate is your experience, you might have to go to a different computer store to get this sorted out by a good technician.

I managed to download Winrescue98 and this displays a list of previously backed up registries by Windows. I restored the one before the previous registry I was using that was corrupt. Now my PC is back to normal and I am so happy!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Does this qualify me as a PC wizard now? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
