Hi guys, after reading books and all kind of questions in this forum I have decided to buy all the components and build my system. Well today was the moment of the truth...the first boot!!!! and as you can read form the title everything went wrong.
Well this is the scenario.

Ingredients (all new):
FIC AZ11E mobo
64MB stradm (to start!)
standard floppy drive
Western digital 30GB hard drive 7200rpm UATA100
12 DVD ROM Ovation from Creative Labs
TNT2 M64 AGP 4X video card
Duron 700

These are the parts that were installed at the moment of the first boot:
Power supply
CPU w/ Heat sink fan
memory
video card
floppy drive

Total failure (Note: no smoke or sparks were seen and I always was grounded)

What I was able to see and not to see:

Power button did power up the system
NO BEEPS from little speaker
NO LEDS (even after swapping the conncetors)
CPU fan ON!
Floppy disk OFF (was not awaken by the booting and no green led came on)
No HDD led on (but no hard disk was connected and this might be the reason)
NO image on the screen...ZERO nothing (and i did play with contrasts and brightness).

What works for sure:
floppy drive (works on another system)
video card (ditto)
monitor works

What I do not know if it works (meaning: I cannot swap and test):
CPU
Motherboard
Power supply (is the one I suspect more, could be this?)
I`ll check the memory after this posting but i doubt this is the problem because I should see something on the display or hear some beeps).

At this point i beg for some advices.
thanks

I forgot to add:
1)I did try twice the booting procedure, "out" and "in" the case. Same result (the "out" i guess rules out shorts between mobo and case right?

2)basically only the cpu fan stays ON but the system does not go further!

3)the front case fan is connected to the Mobo and does NOT work (the connector is close to the front panel switches) but when I use a normal BERG connector the fan goes fine!!!!!! (so is the power supply or the mobo?)

I had the same problem with a 900mhz thunderbird. It turned out that my 250W power supply was insufficient. Upped it to a 300W and was able to POST no problem. I'm not sure if the same would be applicable to a Duron chip.

I'm sure you already tired reseating everything.

If the FSB jumper is set to 133, try 100. There is also a memory compatibility issue with the AZ11E. Check this FIC AZ11E FAQ (http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/faq/faqs01AZ11.htm).

I think I solved the prob. I used a different SDRAM module and the system booted fine. I guess was the memory, is weird though that no beeps come out plus the mobo has a "voice" alert mechanism that tells if the CPU or SDRAM is faulty, but i wasn`t alerted. I `ll check later.

Reid,
That link you gave to the FIC FAQ site is for the AZ11 board.
I put an E in the url and went to the AZ11E FAQ page. No mention there of the memory problem. Do you think the AZ11 FAQ apply to the AZ11E?
I have a AZ11E w/800 TB using 128 PC133 in the shop right now-can't get in to post/beep. I/they switched out everything. This morn they are gonna try a different MB. I am presently waiting to hear from them.

hey Jim, are you saying that AZ11E has compatibility issues with the 133FSB jumper? I want to buy more memory and if this is the case i am not going to spend money on 133sdram!

I don't know. According to the FIC FAQ just the AZ11 has some memory problems. The AZ11E FAQ page does not say anything about memory problems.
