I am trying to use linux mandrake 8.1 in a home made computer. it has a fic sd 11 motherboard , matrox 15gb hd ,, savage s3 32 mb card , 64 sdram, athlon 900mhz board, floppy and cd rom. My problem is that i was trying to double boot with win 98s.e. I was able to but witn some problems. I decided to use only linux so I installed it as a sole o.s. in the hard disc. It boot ok ,I get to the desktop but i can not use the cd rom , nor the modem. when i try to use the modem it says it is bussy, and the cd rom read the directory of the cd but not the data. It is also unable to play music cd's.
IS there a way to solve this? when installing it appeared that the os recognized all the hardware.Iam new at this and running out of options.i do not know if i need to have a separte set of driver or if they come with the linux-mandrake discs. any help will be appreciated
thanks
I think that if you disable supermount that you will be able to access the CD, (you are probably having problems with your floppy also). This (http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/admin/amount4.html) has how to disable supermount and enable an alternate program....
What kind of modem are you using?

Ok....I'll go through later on thedisabling supermount, another good thing would be to drop by the PcGuide chat channel (http://www.pcguide.com/irc.htm) after about 8pm.
