i recently bought a larger hard drive to accommodate more files and i am having problems with getting my current setup onto my other drive. i am running win2k on a 15 gig western digital and am upgrading to a 40 gig. the first problem i got over was that i could not format the partition to fat32. no problem, i split the hard drive (20/19) and it formatted fine. now to figure out how i'm gonna transfer my files. so i get this bright idea that i could do a back up of the entire original drive, and then restore to another drive and maintain system state and files and wouldn't hafta use any third party proggie, i'll just use windows backup utility. everything goes smoothly till i get like 4 gigs (approximately) into the backup, and then an error message, fixed disk is full, cannot complete backup. funny, there seems to be enough space. maybe i just have a weird system. i haven't found anything saying microsoft's backup is limited, and don't know why it would stop, when i'm putting the backup file on a 20 gig newly partitioned drive. any ideas would be greatly appreciated http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif thanks.

I believe that Windows backup does have a size limit in it....and this what you are facing.

The size limit of 4GB is under FAT32, so if you either go to NTFS for the 2K or use xcopy32 you should be able to do....

But if all you really want to do is move the data files around, and both drives are connected and can see each other then you can just drag and drop the desired files......

awesome, thanks for the info. i was having trouble dragging and dropping, some share violation or something, if any one knows of a way around this, lemme know, otherwise, i'll try xcopy, regardless of the article i just read about it (xcopy xposed http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif ).
