After repeated attempts to configure Samba so that I can browse my Windows file system from Mandrake, I was a little chagrined when I searched the internet for help and discovered that my thought process was bass-ackwards. I know now that I need to mount the DOS drive, but that raised another question (imagine that... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif ).
Running Samba is a potential security risk, right? Sure, I'm on a lan - but it's just to my cable modem, so is there any good reason to install a server package (Samba) at all? Don't I just want to mount and use the existing logical DOS drive that's holding all my Windows docs & data already to store anything from Linux that I might want to share with Windows?
------------------
Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
