i recently got a used hard drive from a friend of mine but ran into some problems installing it. the drive has win2000 pro already installed and my system runs '98, an options screen comes up to select an op erating system, but if i choose windows, instead of 2000, it goes black and i cant even comand promt. can i change the boot order to access my origional drive first then re format the new one, or should i access the 2000 and reformat or un install 2000 from there? please help.

hi the godess of, welcome to pc Guide.

do you know if the HD with w2k on is in FAT32 or NTFS?
if on FAT32 put the HD the end of your IDE cable, jumper set to master and use a `98 boot disk and reformat. then if wanting to use as slave put the jumper to slave put the HD in the middle of your IDE cable.

if on NTFS you will need to use the w2k cd or download the setup for the w2k boot disks(6), let wich ever you use let it install, follow it through and look for remove/delete partition, once done use the `98 boot disk to repartition and format.

hope this helps, if not post back.

forgive me, im young. Jiggy
